The Cultural Youth Association of Nikiti “SITHON” publicly announces the 45th Swim-Cross of the Toroneos Gulf, from Kallithea to Nikiti, Halkidiki, on Saturday, July 18, 2015.

This marathon takes place in the gulf between the first two peninsulas of Halkidiki, starting from

Kallithea, Kassandra, and finishing at Nikiti, Sithonia, covering a total distance of 26 km. The swimmers

may not use swimming aids, such as masks and flippers, including the Fastskin-type swimsuits. Each of

them will be followed by a motor boat equipped with radio, in order to ensure their safety. Maximum two

escorts are allowed to accompany each athlete on the motor boat.

The race is purely held in the ancient Greek spirit of the Olympic Games. For this reason, each athlete

who manages to finish the race will be considered a winner and will be treated as one. Instead of money,

each winner will receive a cup and will be crowned with a wreath made of olive tree leaves. This year the maximum number of the participants will be 20. Everyone who is interested in taking part in

the race has to fill in the attached application form and send it by email in the address

vpsithon@yahoo.gr, no later than the 30th of May. The final list of the participants will be published until June 15.

All of the participants will also have to send, by July 5, a cardiologist’s/pathologist’s certification that they are healthy enough to swim. Lastly, due to the difficult economic situation, there is a participation fee of

€100.00, which covers the expenses of the motor boat and the accommodation of the athlete plus one

escort. The fee must be deposited in the Association’s bank account at least one week before the race.

The most known amongst the difficult and impressive SEA marathons swiming in Greece. It is organised every July by the municipality of NIKITI and E.E.N. SITHON. It is considered to be one of the better sea-races internationally a fact proved by the big participation of foreigner athletes.
